This past weekend we had a girls trip. My mother, myself, my friend Ashley and her mother ventured to tiny Plains, Georgia to attend Jimmy Carter's Sunday School Class. After all, when in the world do you have the opportunity to hear a United States President, former or present, teach Sunday School. Unfortunately, President Carter fell on his way to go turkey hunting and broke his hip. As of Satruday night at 6:00 p.m. he still insisted that he was teaching on Sunday. Somewhere between 9:00 p.m. and midnight however, he decided that he should stay at home and rest. Personally, I think that was a great decision and although we were sad to miss his teachings his neice, Kim, delivered a compelling message; it was an honor to hear her speak. We plan to go back at the end of June.

Despite the inherent disappointment of not hearing President Carter speak, we had an absolute blast. We had the most delicious and unusual hamburgers in a small, local restaurant in Columbus, GA, called The Black Cow. If you are ever in Columbus, you MUST stop. Do not miss The Black Cow! On the way back through Columbus, we stopped at The Cannon Brew Pub (The Black Cow is closed on Sunday) and it was also very good. On Saturday evening, we took a glass blowing class at Mobile Glassblowing Studios in Americus. Very cool! I want to do more glass blowing immediately! It would be fun to make a whole set of wine glasses.

Now it is back to the weekly grind, but it was an awesome weekend trip.

Spent the day feeling like utter shit. I hate migraines. Especially ones that are resistant to medication. I take shots for them ffs... what else is it going to take to make the worst ones go away. My neurologist has no answers so far. Thankfully, mom has been understanding. I hate that we were not able to do anything other than watch some tv and nap.

have you tried the botox shots yet ? People also swear by getting that ear piercing as well.

I've done it all. Nothing but the Sumavel shots really help when I am in crisis mode. Unfortunately, I also get cluster headaches. They tend to come with the migraines. It is not fun when I am dealing with them both.

Luna

Preface: This poor dog. I honestly do not know quite how to deal with this. All I know is that she is making me cry.

Storyline: I adopted a greyhound that was a racer for 4 years. She had been in a home for approximately 1 year before being surrendered by her people. The reason they stated that they were surrendering her was simply that they were moving. No additional reasons given for her surrender. I don't know about you, but when I move I TAKE MY FUCKING FAMILY WITH ME. Anyway, for obvious reasons, she immediately was chosen to come be a part of my family. I had done a lot of studying about racing greyhounds and knew that they were special and needed a good amount of special care. I've dealt with special needs animals for the majority of my life, so I felt well equipped to be Luna's new mom. I've been at home since I adopted her and we have bonded. This afternoon, I had a get together to attend, so I knew I would need to go out. Not knowing how Luna would deal with things, her former handler and I decided that it would be best for her to be crated while I was out. I just got home.
Oh. My. God. It looks like a tornado went through her crate. She shredded every bit of her bedding and the fleece that I left for her. She even managed to move the crate halfway across the living room. I was gone approximately an hour and a half. I called her former handler and he told me it sounded like she was having separation anxiety. I literally do not know what to do with that. I am in tears. I feel so bad for her. Now I am wondering if she needs another dog or what. She is currently asleep on my bed. I guess all the stress wore her out. I am so sad that she is so stressed and I would do anything to make her less anxious.

Has anyone ever dealt with anything like this? If so, what did you do? Poor sweet Luna.

I once rescued a dog that had been abused by its' former owner. I had been on vacation when I rescued him so had spent over a week with him, taking him with me whenever I had to go somewhere. When I had to return to work and had to leave him at home, he exhibited some of the same symptoms. I started leaving a shirt that I had worn recently on his bed and left the radio on. It helped, a great deal. Hopefully, it will help your new family member.

Maybe a small dose of meds. Animals really need to learn to trust, Especially if they have been neglected. The more time you can spend with her the better. Then she will learn that you are coming back. My bestie fosters and rehabs.

poor baby, yes sounds like separation anxiety. She will slowly adjust and it might help to give her calming meds when you have to leave her. I got some at walmart.

Have you thought of a thunder jacket for her ? Its much like a weighted blanket but it is supposed to help greatly with the anxiety.

This unique dog anxiety wrap is designed to provide gentle, constant pressure to your dog's body, producing a calming effect. The ThunderShirt is a wearable solution that can be used to help your pet with dog separation anxiety, travel stress, fear or thunder and other loud noises, and other canine anxieties.

Unfortunately, Luna had to go back. She needs to be adopted by someone with another Greyhound and we just are not equipped to have two. They are very large...lol. I am not the kind of person to return an animal, but she was so miserable, it just destroyed us. We brought home a 70 pound, black and white boy who we have named Twizzler. He is like a small pony. I will post some pictures soon. Luna has gone home with one of the volunteers at the track who has 3 other Greys and she is doing great. I had a feeling another dog would be the answer.
